Around the AFC West: Week 1

The defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs opened the season 1-0 with a 27-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Rookie WR Xavier Worthy was the star of the game scoring two touchdowns – one rushing and one receiving. Worthy in that the Chiefs’ offense with Patrick Mahomes is going to be a problem for opposing defenses. Rashee Rice also had a big night catching seven passes for 103 yards. Patrick Mahomes was intercepted once but finished the night with 291 yards passing. The Chiefs host the Cincinnati Bengals in week two.

John Harbaugh won his return to the NFL when his Los Angeles Chargers knocked off the Las Vegas Raiders 22-10. The Chargers ran out a balanced attack in this one with 27 pass plays and 27 run plays. J.K. Dobbins led the Chargers running backs with 10 carries for 135 yards and a touchdown. LA ran for a total of 176 yards on the day. For the Raiders, Gardner Minshew threw for 257 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Davante Adams had just five catches for 59 yards on six targets. They will no doubt look to get him more involved as the season goes along. The Chargers travel to Carolina to take on the Panthers in week two while the the Raiders travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens.

It was a tough debut for Bo Nix with the Denver Broncos. They fell 26-20 to the Seattle Seahawks. Nix completed just 26 of his 42 pass attempts with two interceptions and no touchdowns. He did run for a touchdown in the loss. The Broncos defense had no answer for the Seahawks rushing attack which piled up 146 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon. The Broncos host the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 2.
