Around the AFC North: Week 1
The Baltimore Ravens were a toe away from having the opportunity to start the season 1-0. John Harbaugh had already held up two fingers to indicate the Ravens would go for two with no time left on the clock in regulation, but that did not happen because Isaiah Likely’s toe came down out of bounds. It was a huge night for Likely, who certainly looks like he has taken over as TE1 in Baltimore. He had nine catches for 111 yards and a touchdown. It was a big night for Lamar Jackson as well. He threw for 273 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 122 yards. Derrick Henry ran for a touchdown in Ravens debut but did not find much room to run otherwise. He finished the night with 13 carries for 46 yards. The Ravens host the Oakland Raiders next week.
It was Justin Fields and not Russell Wilson who got the start for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Wilson was held out with a calf injury. Fields led the team to an 18-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Field threw for 156 yards and added another 57 on the ground. The offense was not able to score a touchdown but they did set up six field goals for Chris Bowell. He was perfect on the day. The Steelers travel to Denver to take on the Broncos in week 2.
After an offseason of drama surrounding both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in Cincinnati, the Bengals got off to a 0-1 start with a 16-10 loss to the New England Patriots. Higgins missed the game with an injury. Chase played, but there was uncertainty with his status up until inactives were announced 90 minutes before kickoff. All of that led to a day where Joe Burrow threw for just 164 yards. Better days are ahead for the Bengals offense, but things don’t get any easier for them when they travel to Arrowhead to take on the Chiefs in week two.
The Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson are still bad. They lost 33-17 to the Dallas Cowboys. Watson threw two picks and was sacked six times in the loss. It’s hard to imagine things really get better after what we have seen from Watson during his time in Cleveland. The Browns travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars next week.
