Around the AFC East: Week 1

Tua Tagovailoa led the Miami Dolphins to a 20-17 come-from-behind win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 1. The Dolphins trailed 17-10 at halftime. Tua ended the day with 338 yards passing. The big strike came with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter when he found Tyreek Hill for an 80-yard touchdown pass. It was an eventful day for Hill who had been detained by police on his way to the stadium earlier that day. The Dolphins take on the Buffalo Bills in week two on Thursday Night Football.

Josh Allen accounted for four touchdowns in the Bills 34-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals. He threw for two scores and ran for two more. Allen finished the day with 269 total yards. With Stefon Diggs gone, rookie Keon Coleman was Allen’s favorite target in week one. He had four catches for 51 yards. A total of nine players had at least one reception for the Bills in this one. Buffalo plays Miami on the road in week two.

In one of the more surprising results from week one, the New England Patriots knocked off the Cincinnati Bengals on the road 16-10. Rhamondre Stevenson led the offensive charge for the Patriots with 120 yards on 25 carries. Jacoby Brissett threw for just 121 yards but didn’t turn the ball over. It was enough to secure a 1-0 start for rookie head coach Jerod Mayo. The Patriots will face off with the Seattle Seahawks next week.

Aaron Rodgers made it through the week one game this year, but the New York Jets fell 32-19 to the San Francisco 49ers. Rodgers threw for 167 yards before being replaced by Tyrod Taylor late in the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand. Allen Lazard had a big night with six catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Garrett Wilson also had six catches on 11 targets. The Jets travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans in week two.
