Angels Ink Veteran Starter Kyle Hendricks
For the first time in his soon-to-be twelve-year career, Kyle Hendricks will dawn a uniform other than the Chicago Cubs.
The Los Angeles Angels and Hendricks have reportedly inked Hendricks to a one-year $2.5 million deal.
A change of scenery could be exactly what the 34-year-old Hendricks needs after a year full of struggle last season.
Bouncing back and forth between the bullpen and the rotation, Hendricks put up a career-worst 5.92 ERA over 130.2 innings pitched.
2024 was part of a three-year run that has not gone very well for Hendricks as he has had an ERA of over 3.70 in each of the last three campaigns.
Despite a rocky final three seasons, Hendrick’s time in the Windy City will be looked upon favorably in the eyes of the Cubs.
After debuting in 2014, Hendricks was a key part of the historic 2016 World Series Winning team as he went 16-8 with a league-leading 2.13 ERA.
In the clinching game of the 2016 NLCS, Hendricks fired 7.1 innings of shutout ball allowing just two hits against the Dodgers in a game the Cubs would win 5-0.
More success would follow for Hendricks following that historic run as he would total an ERA of 3.44 or under in the next four seasons.
Los Angeles will hope that they can return Hendricks to his pre-2022 form as they look to speed up their rebuild process.
In Ron Washington’s first season at the helm in LA, the Angels finished last in the AL West with a 63-99 record.
Hendricks will join a starting rotation that struggled just as much as anyone in baseball last season.
The Angels finished 26th in starting pitching ERA (4.57), 26th in WHIP (1.35), 29th with 1,252 strikeouts, and tied for last by not recording any shutouts.
