A’ja Wilson Becomes First Player In WNBA History To Reach 1K Points In A Single Season

Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson continues to make history as she once again adds to her already legendary career accomplishments.

In Sunday’s 84-71 win over the Connecticut Sun, Wilson became the first player in WNBA history to eclipse 1,000 points in a single season.

With 1:24 left in the game, Wilson knocked down her signature fadeaway jumper from the elbow in a fitting way to make history.

“I really have to credit my offseason work and my preparation,” Wilson said. “I take time to get away from basketball, to let me miss it. So then when I’m in it, I don’t take it for granted.

“My screensaver is, ‘Rest at the end, not in the middle,’ and that’s something I tell myself every single day”.

Averaging a career-high 27 points to go along slide 13 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game, Wilson is the overwhelming favorite to bring home her third MVP award.

Wilson’s points per game mark will be he highest ppg total in WNBA history. She has clinched that mark even if she doesn’t score in the Aces’ final two games.

“It’s not easy to be A’ja Wilson every day. It just isn’t” Aces head coach Becky Hammon said after the game.

“The city is lucky that they’ve gotten to see her grow up. You get to see her evolve into not only this unbelievable player but a person who gives back to her community, who cares about the people she’s playing with and interacting with.”.

Las Vegas drafted Wilson with the first overall pick in 2018 prior to their first season in the Sin City.

Since then, Wilson has averaged 21 points and 9.2 rebounds in her seven seasons. Not only does she have the numbers but Wilson also has the accolades that few in WNBA history can claim.

After being named Rookie of the Year in 2018, Wilson has won the DPOY twice, been an All-Star six times, won two MVPs, and most recently back to back WNBA championships.

Vegas will aim for their third consecutive title in the WNBA playoffs which begin Sunday. The Aces sit as the fourth seed eyeing a likely first-round matchup with the Seattle Storm.
