AEW Forbidden Door PPV Preview: Wrestling Worlds Are Colliding

Forbidden Door is an annual pay-per-view that allows New Japan Pro Wrestling to take on the best wrestlers in AEW.

However, top New Japan stars Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada are now full-time members of the AEW roster. So tonight’s show will also include wrestlers from Mexico’s CMLL and Japan’s Stardom women’s promotions.

Here’s your guide to all of the global talent that will be on display at the UBS Arena in Long Island.

AEW World title

Swerve Strickland is the champion, as he defeated Samoa Joe in April at the Dynasty PPV. He will defend against Ospreay, who already holds the International title. He won a battle royale to earn the title shot.

IWGP World title

This is the top championship in New Japan. Jon Moxley of AEW won the title from Tetsuya Naito in Chicago. Naito will get a rematch at Forbidden Door.

TNT title Ladder match

Adam Copeland broke his leg while diving off a steel cage, so he had to vacate the TNT title. Battling for the belt tonight will be Jack Perry, Dante Martin, Lio Rush, El Phantasmo, Konosuke Takeshita, and Ring Of Honor champion Mark Briscoe.

AEW women’s title

“Timeless” Toni Storm is the three-time champion, and she will face Mina Shirakawa from Stardom. Mariah May will be in Toni’s corner, but she also was a member of Club Venus with Mina in Stardom.

TBS title vs. New Japan Strong women’s title

Mercedes Mone will try to add to her gold collection against Stephanie Vaquer in a winner-take-all match. Vaquer is from CMLL, even though she holds a title in New Japan.

Other PPV matches

Chris Jericho will team up with Big Bill and Jeff Cobb to face Samoa Joe, Hook, and Katsuyori Shibata. In another trios bout, The Acclaimed and New Japan President Hiroshi Tanahashi will take on The Elite (Okada & The Young Bucks).

Orange Cassidy will battle technical wrestling wizard Zack Sabre Jr. Bryan Danielson will take on Shingo Takagi in a first-round Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament match.

Former AEW World champion MJF will continue his comeback against CMLL star Hechicero.

Zero Hour matches

The Zero Hour pre-show, which will start at 6:30 p.m., is also loaded with action. Check out these bouts:

·      Lucha Brothers & Mistico vs. Titan, Yota Tsuji & Hiromu Takahashi

·      Willow Nightingale & Tam Nakano vs. Kris Statlander & Momo Watanabe

·      Saraya vs. Mariah May in an Owen Hart Cup first-round match

·      Private Party vs. House of Black vs. Gabriel Kidd & Roderick Strong vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Kyle O’Reilly.

Have you got all that? The pay-per-view starts at 8 p.m. Eastern. Enjoy!
