AEW Announces 12 Wrestlers for Continental Classic Tournament

AEW has never been shy about presenting great wrestling matches without any context or buildup.

We have seen many crazy, intense feuds, but sometimes AEW likes to say, “Let’s just watch a bunch of great matches!”

If you like that, then it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

AEW will start its second annual Continental Classic tournament this week on Dynamite and Collision.

Six wrestlers will compete in a round-robin format in the Gold block, and six others will do battle in the Blue block.

Wrestlers earn three points for a win and one point for a 20-minute draw.

The winners of the two blocks will battle for the Continental championship at the World’s End pay-per-view on Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla.

Eddie Kingston won the first Continental tournament. He held the belt along with the Ring Of Honor and New Japan Strong titles, forming his own “Triple Crown.”

Kazuchika Okada has held the Continental title since defeating Kingston in March.

BLUE BLOCK

Okada will be the favorite in the Blue block, since he’s the current champion and one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. His belt won’t be on the line in every match.

Kyle Fletcher and Daniel Garcia are two rising stars in the Blue block. On Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view, Fletcher beat Will Ospreay, and Garcia won the TNT title from Jack Perry.

The Blue block also includes former ROH champ Mark Briscoe, The Beast Mortos, and 49-year-old Shelton Benjamin.

GOLD BLOCK

Many people expect Darby Allin to win the AEW title sometime next year, so he is one of the favorites in the Gold Block.

Ricochet and Will Ospreay always have amazing matches, and either of them could win the block.

The rest of the Gold group includes Claudio Castagnoli, Brody King, and Juice Robinson.
