A Look At The New York Yankees Rotation Without Roki Sasaki
It is clear that the New York Yankees had a plan after losing in five games to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
The Yankees made a major attempt to bring back Juan Soto before he landed with their crosstown rival. New York quickly pivoted to the pitching rotation while also landing Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. Will this translate to a championship? That is yet to be seen but these do not seem like moves that will put the Yankees back on top.
The one major move in the rotation was signing Max Fried to a massive eight-year contract. He now joins Gerrit Cole at the top.
New York was told that it will not be landing Roki Sasaki in free agency. The Dodgers remain the overwhelming favorite to land the Japanese superstar. Sasaki has not announced his decision but we know that it will not be the Yankees.
Without Sasaki, the Yankees will still bolster an elite rotation:
- Gerrit Cole
- Max Fried
- Luis Gil
- Carlos Rodon
- Clarke Schmidt
The duo of Cole and Fried at the top has fans salivating. If the rotation can remain healthy, there is a chance that it is one of the best in the league but there is also a chance that it flops.
This begins with Carlos Rodon. The Yankees signed what seemed like a panic contract with Rodon off a career year. He spent the majority of his first season on the injured list before having his ups and downs last year.
Outside of Rodon, the Yankees are hoping that the rotation can stay healthy and repeat production from last year. Gil was named the American League Rookie of the Year. The team was unwilling to give up Gil in a trade that could have landed outfielder Kyle Tucker. They clearly feel good about their pitching prospect, who has already had success at the Major League level.
Clarke Schmidt is another pitching that the Yankees are very excited about moving forward and he closes out the five-man rotation.
Each night, the Yankees have a good shot with this group of starters, even without Sasaki. The major questions include can the group stay healthy and will it lead to a World Series title?
