A Look At The New York Mets Lineup After Signing Pete Alonso

One of the major sagas of the offseason is now complete.

On Wednesday night, the New York Mets and Pete Alonso agreed to terms on a two-year deal. Alonso will make $30 million in 2025, which is the most ever by a first baseman, before the option to opt out after the season.

This deal is a win-win for both sides. Alonso will get the chance to prove himself while making historic money while the Mets are not locked into the first baseman long term.

The long-running story is officially over and so is the Mets offseason likely. The Mets have made some major moves this offseason. Of course, Juan Soto leads the way. With Alonso back, the lineup is now complete and is one of the deepest in the league.

Now that the move is official, take a look at a potential lineup in New York:

  1. Francisco Lindor, SS
  2. Juan Soto, RF
  3. Mark Vientos, 3B
  4. Pete Alonso, 1B
  5. Brandon Nimmo, LF
  6. Francisco Alvarez, C
  7. Jesse Winker, DH
  8. Jeff McNeil, 2B
  9. Jose Siri, CF

With the addition of Alonso, the Mets now have a reliable slugger in the middle of the lineup while lengthening the bench.

President of the Mets David Stearns has talked about the young talent at length. Even with Alonso back, both Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio will get a chance to play and prove their worth off the bench.

The centerfield spot will be platooned with Siri and Tyrone Taylor, who was productive in this role last season. The DH role will also be switched between lefty Winker and right-handed option in Starling Marte. Luis Torrens returns as the backup catcher while Nick Madrigal was signed to be a swing infielder.

The Mets turned Lindor into one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball last season. Soto is now in the mix while Vientos looks like a blossoming star. Alonso fills that cleanup role and gives the Mets one of the best top fours in baseball.

After a run to the NLCS last season, the Mets have retooled and brought back plenty of production.
