White Sox select Phil Fox in the seventh round of the 2024 draft (No. 199 overall)
With the 199th pick in the 2024 MLB draft, the White Sox used their seventh round selection on right-handed reliever Phil Fox of the University of Pittsburgh.
Fox, at 5´10´´, 170, is far from an overpowering presence. However MLB Pipeline’s Jonathan Mayo praised Fox’s fastball, calling it “one of the flattest approaches for a fastball in the draft” and noting that there are “really good metrics behind it.” A Brian Bannister pick?
Fox had just one year in the ACC, transferring to Pitt from Gardner-Webb University. Once there, Fox was an All-American and All-ACC pitcher as a fourth-year junior, clocking in with a 1.47 ERA over 23 games (eight saves).
