5 Takeaways From The 94th MLB All Star Game

Major League Baseball’s 94th annual All-Star Game is in the books and it was an instant classic.

The American League used five unanswered runs capped off by a two-run home run from Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran to take down the National League by a score of 5-3.

With the win, the A.L. has now won 10 of the last 11 All-Star Games. The last time N.L. won the game in back-to-back years was 2010-2012 when the National League had a three-game All-Star winning streak.

From Shohei Ohtani to Paul Skenes there were plenty of takeaways from baseball’s big night. Let’s break down five of them.

1 Shohei Ohtani is undoubtedly the best player in baseball – When you get all of the best baseball players in the world together in one game, you know that the best of them all is going to stand out.

That is exactly what Shohei Ohtani did on Tuesday night.

Ohtani drew a walk against A.L starter Corbin Burnes in his first at-bat and just two innings later blasted a three-run home run to put the N.L up 3-0.

If the National League had won this game, Ohtani probably would have been the MVP.

2 Mason Miller is electric – If you’ve watched Mason Miller pitch this season you know the kind of energy that he brings but on Tuesday night, he got the chance to show it on the national stage.

Miller earned the win after throwing a scoreless fifth-inning and he did it in dominant fashion.

The first pitch Miller threw was a 101 MPH fastball to Ketel Marte who swung and flew out to left field. Next, Miller simply dominated the best player in the world.

Shohei Ohtani watched two fastballs above 100 MPH for strikes before swinging and missing at a nasty slider in the dirt for strike three. Next Miller won a seven-pitch battle against Trea Turner which ended in a strikeout and retired the side in order.

3 Jarren Duran is bursting on the scene – Not very many people had Jarren Duran winning the MVP of the All-Star Game but that is exactly what happened.

Duran belted a two-run home run to put the A.L. up 5-3 which ended up being the difference in the game.

Red Sox fans aren’t a stranger to the success of their All-Star center fielder. Duran is slashing .284/.342/.447 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI in 95 games this season.

The power/speed combo of Duran makes him a very exciting player to watch and baseball fans will certainly be paying more attention to him moving forward.

4 The American League continues to be superior – Every single year, we talk about how dominant the A.L is but it’s a theme that continues to resurface every mid-summer classic.

Dating back to 2012, the N.L has only won a single All-Star Game (2023, 3-2 W)

Now that home-field advantage is not up for grabs, the winner of the mid-summer classic doesn’t mean much but to see a single side winning 10 of the last 11 games is certainly interesting.

5 Bruce Bochy is wiggling himself into the very top managers of all time – It seems like everything that Bruce Bochy touches turns into a winner.

After three World Series wins with the Giants, Bochy came out of retirement in 2023 to lead the Rangers to their first-ever championship in his first year at the helm.

That win secured Bochy’s spot as A.L All-Star manager where the American League’s 5-3 win helped Bruce Bochy join Tony La Russa as the only managers to win the All-Star Game in both leagues.

Bochy might not have a long time left in the dugout but when he finally does call it quits, Cooperstown will soon be calling his home.
