3 Things The Rangers Need To Accomplish At The Winter Meetings
The Baseball world has officially ascended upon Dallas Texas for the annual MLB Winter Meetings.
Every MLB team comes into the Winter Meetings with a list of goals they want to accomplish and the Texas Rangers are now different.
Let’s break down three things Texas needs to make happen before they leave.. Or kind of leave that is.
1 Bullpen, Bullpen, Bullpen – This one doesn’t particularly need much explanation.
Last year at the Winter Meetings, the Rangers signed Kirby Yates to fortify a bullpen that struggled mightily en route to a World Series Championship.
This year, Texas finds itself in a similar spot this go around needing at least 2-3 arms to form what right now is not much of a bullpen.
We know that Bruce Bochy and the Rangers front office would like to resign Kirby Yates but will also be very much in the open market.
The Rangers won’t be heading to the front of the market for Juan Soto or Corbin Burnes but it could be fishing at the top of the reliever market.
2 At Least One Starter – No matter which way you slice it up, the Rangers need to add another starting pitcher.
Texas is interested in bringing back Nathan Eovaldi who may or may not be out of their price range.
If it’s not the Rangers World Series hero, Texas will be fishing somewhere else into the mid-tier starting pitching market to try and fill their hole.
Said market has shaped up on the high end with names like Yuesi Kikuchi, Luis Severino, Frankie Montas, and Matthew Boyd already signing for more than market value.
Roki Sasaki will also likely be posted at some point during these meetings and the Rangers have been positioning themselves to make a run at the Japanese phenom.
3 Another Bat – If financial gymnastics ends up going well for Chris Young, Ross Fensetermaker, and the Rangers front office, they could find themselves positioned to add another bat.
Joc Pederson is someone who the Rangers are interested in to fill a DH spot that has struggled in recent years.
Michael Conforto is another name who the Rangers likely had an interest in after showing interest in him during offseasons past however, Conforto swung a one-year $17 million contract with the Dodgers.
No matter who it is, the Rangers will be looking for someone to add some much-needed slug to their order.
