3 Takeaways From The Texans 23-20 Win Over The Colts

The Houston Texans improved to 6-2 on Sunday with a 23-20 win over the division rival Indianapolis Colts.

Sunday afternoon’s win puts the Texans two games up in the AFC South and gives Houston a sweep of the season series against the Colts.

There were plenty of takeaways from the Texans’ win which significantly increased their playoff chances.

Let’s break down three of them.

1 Houston may have to figure out how to operate without Stefon Diggs

When one of your star players goes down with a non-contact knee injury, it’s never good but that’s what happened to the Texans on Sunday.

Stefon Diggs left the game late in the third quarter after hitting the ground and grabbing his knee following a cut on an inside route.

Diggs’ injury doesn’t appear to be very promising for Houston but nothing is official just yet. According to Head Coach DeMeco Ryans, Diggs is “still being evaluated.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter went on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday saying “”Everybody is hoping for the best with Stefon Diggs but there are some troubling signs here,” Schefter said. “The fact that it was a non-contact injury and nobody has said to me that he’s fine yet [is alarming].”

If in fact, Diggs is out long-term, the Texans will have to hope they can get Nico Collins back soon as he has been out since week five with a hamstring injury.

The rest of the Texans’ wide receiver room will need to step up as they did late in the game Sunday. Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz amongst others were featured heavily in the passing game when Diggs left.

2 Texans’ defense can get clutch stops when they need to

Another week and more clutch play from the Texans’ defense. In specific the pass rush as both Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson had clutch sacks late in the game to help seal it.

At NRG Stadium this season, opponents have been able to convert just 30% of their third-down opportunities. On Sunday, the Colts were just 2-13 on third down.

Not to mention the struggle opposing quarterbacks have struggled against Houston. Anthony Richardson was just 10/32 with an interception.

3 The Offensive Line still needs lots of work

Last Sunday, the Texans offensive line caught national attention after CJ Stroud was pressured on 48% of his passing attempts against the Packers.

When the Colts came to NRG stadium, the Texas offensive line was better… not much better but better.

Stroud was sacked just two times and pressured just nine times in the second half but there are still many question marks.

First-round pick at right guard Kenyon Green was benched in favor of Jarrett Patterson early in the game before Patterson suffered a concussion forcing Green back in.
