3 Reasons the Eagles Might Fall Short in Their Super Bowl Quest

Earlier this week, I wrote about the reasons the Eagles can win the Super Bowl—check it out here. But now, it’s time to examine the other side of the coin. While it’s hard to be overly negative about this team, some concerns linger heading into the playoffs. Let’s take a look at three reasons the Eagles might not win the Super Bowl.

1. Jalen Hurts is Rusty

Jalen Hurts has missed the past 2¾ games due to a concussion, and he just returned to practice on Wednesday. While having QB1 back is a massive boost, rust could be a legitimate concern.

The Eagles face a Packers team that isn’t forgiving to slow starts. Falling behind by 14 points in the first quarter would put Philly in a dangerous position. Jordan Love, one of the NFL’s streakiest quarterbacks, can get hot in a hurry, and if the Packers start strong while Hurts struggles to find his rhythm, the game could spiral out of control quickly.

2. Injuries

No surprise here: injuries are always a concern in the NFL, especially during the playoffs. The Eagles are entering the postseason with all 22 starters healthy, which is a rare luxury. But if that luck were to run out now, it could derail their Super Bowl hopes.

An injury to any of Philly’s key players—whether it’s Hurts, Saquon Barkley, or someone on the offensive line—could dramatically shift the balance. Losing even one critical piece could make the difference between advancing and heading home.

3. Special Teams Mistakes

This is perhaps the most likely reason for concern. Special teams has been a rollercoaster for the Eagles all season, and it could prove costly in the playoffs.

Jake Elliott, once one of the most reliable kickers in the league, hasn’t been the same this year. Some speculate that since he’s no longer handling kickoffs, coming into the game cold has impacted his performance. Whether or not that’s true, Elliott’s struggles are a concern.

Braden Mann, the team’s punter and kickoff specialist, has also been inconsistent. His recent struggles to get the ball into the end zone for touchbacks have created opportunities for dangerous returns.

Special teams is often overlooked, but one bad play—a missed field goal, a blocked punt, or a big return—can swing an entire game. For a team with championship aspirations, this is the kind of mistake they can’t afford.

Final Thoughts

While these concerns are valid, it’s important to remember that the Eagles are one of the most complete teams in the NFL. Jalen Hurts’ leadership, an elite defense, and having some sort of home-field advantage gie them plenty of reasons for optimism.

That said, football is a game of inches, and small mistakes can have big consequences—especially in the playoffs. If the Eagles can overcome these potential pitfalls, there’s no reason they can’t bring another Lombardi Trophy back to Philadelphia.
