3 Free Agent Options For San Francisco Giants After Signing Willy Adames
The San Francisco Giants have been hunting for a major signing in free agency for years now.
After missing out on the likes of Aaron Judge and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Giants wanted to make a splash. Buster Posey is acting as the team’s President of Baseball Operations and hit a home run immediately.
The Giants landed Willy Adames on a seven-year deal worth $182 million deal. This is the largest contract in Giants’ history. San Francisco finally landed the big bat that the team wanted for years in free agency.
Now, the roster is not done. Posey and the front office is looking to add to the roster and there are plenty of names out there for consideration.
Christian Walker
The Giants have a need at first base heading into the offseason. Bryce Eldridge is the No. 1 prospect in the farm system and ended last season in Triple-A. The 20-year-old is seen as the first basemen of the future but will likely not be up to start the 2025 season. This means the Giants could use a bridge option at the position.
Enter Walker. The Giants have also been linked to Pete Alonso but this would be a long-term commitment. Walker, at 33 years old, could be an option for two years while Eldridge prepares to take over. Walker would bring that power bat in the middle of the lineup that San Francisco has wanted.
Ha-Seong Kim
Kim will miss the beginning of the season as he recovers from shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum but the fit makes sense both on and off the field. Kim is a former Gold Glover in 2023. He is a shortstop and will likely have to make a move with the signing of Adames but there is flexibility in San Francisco. Off the field, he could be interested in reuniting with his former KBO teammate.
Jung Hoo Lee signed with the Giants last offseason. Lee and Kim spent time together in Korea while Bob Melvin was his former manager in San Diego. There are many ties to the Giants for Kim. He remains one to monitor.
Max Fried
If the Giants want to add another starting pitcher, Fried could be at the top of the list. Blake Snell is now in Los Angeles and Logan Webb is on his own at the top of the rotation. The Giants have not been shy about adding big-name starting pitchers and the left-handed Fried could be the perfect compliment to Webb at the top. San Francisco has the money to add Fried and would be set at the top of the rotation for years to come.
