3 Best Landing Spots For Mike McCarthy
There is a new head coach on the market.
Mike McCarthy was not renewed by the Dallas Cowboys after a losing season without the services of Dak Prescott for the majority. Was this the correct decision? Well, Jerry Jones is going to run his business the way he wants.
This makes for an intriguing storyline as the offseason continues and teams look for new head coaches. There are many options available if McCarthy is looking for a new job.
Below, check out three options that could be interested in McCarthy’s services this year.
3. New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are a dark-horse contender for many coaches out there. they were kind of a forgotten team down the stretch of the season with many injuries piling up on the offensive side of the ball. At full strength, an offense that features Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave is attractive. With Derek Carr at quarterback, there is experience there and something for McCarthy to work with. This remains a dark-horse spot for McCarthy as well. There might be other options that he prefers but the Saints have a great history in the 2000s and are looking for the next head coach to take them to the promised land.
2. Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears brought back Matt Eberflus this season after drafting Caleb Williams. Why? It still doesn’t make much sense. The Bears are now open to any candidates and McCarthy should immediately shoot up near the top of the list. He is an offensive mind that has experience working with some of the best quarterbacks in the league. Chicago has some offensive pieces moving forward and McCarthy could help develop Williams further. Ultimately, that is the goal as Chicago believes it has its first franchise quarterback in years.
1. New York Jets
The New York Jets were players for Mike McCarthy before he went to Dallas but decided to go with Robert Saleh instead. This turned out to be another poor decision by this inept franchise. Well, it will get another chance here. If McCarthy is brought in, that means Aaron Rodgers will likely be gone. There is no world where the two would co-exist. McCarthy was able to win games with Cooper Rush over the years. He kept the Cowboys competitive this season when the sky was falling. No one knows more about the sky falling than the Jets. McCarthy is the type of professional voice that is needed in the locker room. It wouldn’t hurt to let Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall play within his offense.
