3 Best Free-Agent Fits For Anthony Santander
Anthony Santander has been with the Baltimore Orioles since 2017. He has turned into an elite power hitter and turned in the best year of his career at the best time.
In 2024, Santander totaled 44 home runs and 102 RBI for the Orioles, which were both career-highs. His batting average took a hit at .237 but he went down in strike outs as well. Santander is not a hitter that is going to walk but will drive in runs and be aggressive at the plate.
Santander has not found a new home just yet but there will be many suitors. Below, check out three teams that could covet Santander moving forward in free agency.
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies have gone backwards since making a run to the World Series in 2022. The offense went radio-silent against the New York Mets during the postseason and that is how the front office has been to begin free agency as well. There is no action coming out of Philadelphia early on and the team seems desperate to add a bat. Santander could be that option. He would fit into the mold of home run hitters for the Phils but would not add help average wise. Santander could hit clean up behind Bryce Harper and provide some protection.
Houston Astros
The Astros will be an interesting team next season. Kyle Tucker is gone and Alex Bregman could be next if he decides to sign elsewhere. This means the Astros will be in need of a power bat with Yordan Alvarez. This is not a team that is interested in rebuilding. The Astros remain kings of the AL West and contenders in the American League. Bringing in Santander would hurt the Baltimore Orioles while also shoring up the middle of the lineup with two major bats on the way out.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays remain big-time threats to land Santander. In recent years, big names have not taken Toronto’s money. It just is not an appealing spot for free agents. Toronto must be looking into the future. Vlad Guerrero Jr. will likely be gone at the end of 2025. This means Santander could be a replacement bat in the middle of the rotation. For the 2025 season, Santander would provide protection and another bat that could contribute 35+ home runs. Most importantly, the Blue Jays are desperate for a big-time bat to take their money after missing out on Juan Soto.
