2025 NFL Draft Risers: Did a 1st-Round Linebacker Emerge in Week 12?
The NFL Draft is still in the distant future, but the true difference-maker in a player’s draft stock is determined by their on-field performance during the regular season. “But how can I track all the highlights throughout college football each week?”, you may ask. If that is you, you came to the right place!
Each week during the college football season, I will bring to you an NFL Draft Stock Report, sharing the most significant draft information gathered from the previous week’s college football action. As the season goes on, we will focus in on players whose stock is continuously soaring and making a case to be an early to mid-round selection.
As always, be sure to share your thoughts on these prospects in the comment section below, but without further adieu, here are the most notable performances affecting the 2025 NFL Draft landscape from this past week’s action.
Smael Mondon | ILB | Georgia
I have been a big fan of Mondon’s for quite some time now, but injuries and inconsistency have hampered most of his collegiate career. However, I believe his breakout is finally beginning after an unbelievably strong performance against Tennessee. Mondon was consistently in the right position in coverage, getting into passing lanes and consistently taking care of his assignments. He also diagnosed the run incredibly well while not overrunning the running lanes. All these attributes were exemplified on the stat sheet as well, as Mondon finished the day with 8 total tackles, 7 solo tackles, 1 sack, and 1 pass defended. If Georgia can make a run this postseason, keep an eye on Mondon. He will have an opportunity to get back into the top-40 pick conversation.
Barrett Carter | ILB | Clemson
Carter is another guy I was high on during the preseason, and Saturday’s win against Pittsburgh was his best performance to date, recording 12 total tackles, 9 solo tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and 1 pass defended. He was truly all over the field, displaying impressive abilities in coverage, as a run defender, and as a blitzer. His suddenness and reactionary speed display his instinctiveness, and his combination of burst and speed are a big reason for the splash plays he creates both in coverage and as a blitzer. If he can carry Clemson to an ACC title or even the College Football Playoff, expect his name to rise on draft boards.
Futures Watch
Two defensive standouts from the Clemson vs. Pittsburgh matchup were T.J. Parker and Kyle Louis. Parker, who had 4 sacks for Tigers during the contest, has heavy hands and already possesses NFL size and strength. He could be a popular name in next year’s draft class, as could Pitt’s Kyle Louis. Louis is undersized and needs to add some weight, but he is having an incredible season for the Panthers, having recorded 7 sacks and 4 interceptions this season. The inside linebacker has a knack for pressuring the quarterback, regardless of where he is aligned.
Keep an eye on Florida defenders Shemar James and Tyreak Sapp as well, as they are coming off massive performances against LSU. If either of them declare early, they could be high-upside options on Day 2.
