2024 NFL Preview: Seattle Seahawks Season Outlook, Schedule & Predictions

2023 Season-In-Review

Record: 9-8

The Seattle Seahawks started strong last season during the Geno Smith experience. Seattle won three out of four to begin the year and eventually improved to 6-3. From there, injuries played a role and Seattle lost four in a row to fall to 6-7. Drew Lock and the Seahawks pulled off a major upset of the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night and this sparked three wins in four games to end the season. With a 8-9 record, the Seahawks missed out on the postseason.

2024 Seattle Seahawks Season Preview

Offense

Key Additions: OT George Fant, OG Tremayne Anchrum, C Nick Harris, QB Sam Howell

Key Losses: QB Drew Lock, TE Colby Parkinson, TE Will Dissly, OG Damien Lewis, OG Phil Hayes, C Evan Brown

The Seahawks turned in another average season in 2023. Is there higher expectations this time around? Geno Smith  has revitalized his career in Seattle and has given the team a short-term option under center. When looking at the group around Smith offensively, it is very inconsistent.

The upside is the skill positions. D.K. Metcalf is an elite receiver around the league with his great size and speed. Tyler Lockett has been a model of consistency during his career while second-year wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba is expected to take a major step this season. The skill positions continue with Kenneth Walker, who has been a 1,000-yard rusher in his career.

The question mark offensively comes along the offensive line. Outside of Charles Cross, who is a legitimate left tackle, the rest of the line comes with question marks. Abraham Lucas has struggled with injuries while George Fant is past his prime. There are many issues along the line, which has hindered any further progress.

It seems as though it will be a similar season for the Seahawks. That is talented skills with an offensive line that gives up plenty of sacks. Either way, there could be some points scored by Seattle if it is able to protect Smith long enough to push the ball down the field.

Defense

Key Additions: DT Jonathan Hankins, LB Jerome Baker, LB Tyrel Dodson, S Rayshawn Jenkins, S K’Von Wallace

Key Losses: LB Bobby Wagner, LB Jordyn Brooks, LB Devin Bush, S Quandre Diggs, S Jamal Adams

The Seattle defense was a mess last season. It ranked dead last in the league against the run and could not muster up a pass rush all season long.

It is no surprise that the front office used its first-round pick on defensive tackle Byron Murphy to help defend the rushing attack. He will join Leonard Williams along the defensive line. On the edges, there was just one player who totaled over five sacks. This was Boye Mafe, who finished with nine sacks. Uchenna Nwsou has been ineffective during his tenure in Seattle.

The group of linebackers also took a major step back. Bobby Wagner is now in Washington as the Seahawks lost their top three options from last season. The secondary also lost both starters from last season. Michael Jackson and Tariq Woolen make up the starting group a corner.

Seattle was once known for its defense and it led to championships. The tone has changed for the team and it seems to be an ineffective unit.
