2024 NFL Preview: Los Angeles Rams Season Outlook, Schedule & Predictions
2023 Season-In-Review
Record: 10-7, Loss in Wild Card Round at Detroit Lions (24-23)
It was a tale of two seasons for the Los Angeles Rams in 2023. They won the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks but struggled in the first half of their schedule. This led to Los Angeles being 3-6 heading into the bye week. The Rams turned it around in the second half and won seven out of eight to end the year. Los Angeles finished with 10 wins and Matthew Stafford earned a return trip to Detroit in the Wild Card round.
2024 Los Angeles Rams Season Preview
Offense
Key Additions: OG Jonah Jackson, TE Colby Parkinson, RB Blake Corum
Key Losses: QB Carson Wentz, C Brian Allen
For the Rams offense, it is the same as its been in recent years. That is relying on the health of Matthew Stafford and a loaded group of pass catchers. This season, there is another component to the offense for the Rams that was not there last season.
Of course, we are talking about the emergence of Kyren Williams in the backfield. Cam Akers was expected to be the next big weapon in L.A., but it did not work out that way. Williams impressed early on and continued to get better as the season went on. He totaled 1,144 yards on the ground with 12 touchdowns. Williams did struggle with injuries but the Rams added Blake Corum out of Michigan.
Moving onto that loaded group of receivers. Cooper Kupp has been one of the top receivers in the league when healthy. His relationship with Stafford shows on Sundays and the duo have quite the connection. Like Williams, Puka Nacua broke out as a rookie, giving the Rams a legitimate threat on both sides of the field.
Alaric Jackson stepped in along the offensive line last season and did a fine job replacing Andrew Whitworth. Steve Avila is going to move over a slot to center while two new guards take on big roles, Jonah Jackson and Kevin Dotson.
The Rams have a history of injuries but this is a talented offensive group that can make some noise in the NFC, if healthy.
Defense
Key Additions: CB Tre’Davious White, S Kamren Curl, DE Jared Verse, DT Braden Fiske, CB Darious Williams
Key Losses: DT Aaron Donald, DT Larrell Murchison, LB Troy Reeder, CB Ahkello Witherspoon
The Rams were a solid unit in the second half of the season and it was largely in part because of the offense. Los Angeles worked hard in the offseason to improve defensively and create that well-rounded team needed to contend in the NFC.
One of the biggest losses of the offseason has been Aaron Donald, who announced his retirement from the NFL. With the loss of one of the best defensive players in the league, The Rams attempted to do this through the draft. It began in the first round with Jared Verse, who is a highly-touted pass rusher. Braden Fiske was taken in the second round and is another defensive lineman who will step into a big role.
The secondary was the weakest point of Los Angeles last season. The front office made up for it with the addition of Tre’Davious White and Darious Williams. Kamren Curl was another addition in the safety group after his tenure with the Washington Commanders.
The defense as many new pieces and there is hope that it can be an upgrade from last season.
