2024 NFL Preview: Green Bay Packers Season Outlook, Schedule & Predictions

2023 Season-In-Review

Record: 9-8, Loss to San Francisco 49ers in NFC Division Round (24-21)

Early on, this looked like it might be a developmental year for the Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love was entering his first season as starting quarterback and the team got off to a 2-5 start. The Packers would get event at 6-6 before losing two in a row. Green Bay ended the year with three consecutive victories before cruising past the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. The Packers peaked at the right time last season. They should have come away with a victory against San Francisco that would have sent the team to the NFC Championship Game but blew a late lead.

2024 Green Bay Packers Season Preview

Offense

Key Additions: RB Josh Jacobs, OT Andre Dillard, OT Jordan Morgan, RB Marshawn Lloyd

Key Losses: RB Aaron Jones, OT David Bakhtiari, OG Jon Runyan, OT Yosh Nijman

It was a roller coaster season for the Packers in 2023. The team looked like it was heading for the top of the draft early on but rebounded to make the postseason, coming plays away from the NFC Championship Game. Jordan Love showed flashes and his performance against Dallas likely landed him the largest deal in NFL history.

There is turnover for each team during the offseason but the Packers did not experience much. The biggest offensive change was in the backfield. Longtime running back Aaron Jones left in free agency but remained in the NFC North with the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers replaced Jones with another talented back in Josh Jacobs. A.J. Dillon will continue to play a role in the backfield but Jacobs will enter as the primary back.

There were also changes along the offensive line. David Bahktiari has struggled to stay on the field and was let go by Green Bay this offseason. The Packers went on to draft his replacement in Arizona tackle Jordan Morgan. Rasheed Walker was slated at left tackle last year and the Packers could opt to keep him there while placing Morgan at guard.

If this happens, Zach Tom would remain on the other side. He was a strong option opposite Walker on the right side. Elton Jenkins and Josh Myers will also return to the interior offensive line.

The wide receiving room did not change much in Green Bay either. Romeo Doubs is believed to be the No. 1 receiver in the group with speedster Christian Watson also returning.

Love will have high expectations after landing a massive contract. He will also have plenty out there questioning his ability after just one year.

Defense

Key Additions: S Xavier McKinney, S Greg Joseph, LB Edgerrin Cooper, CB Javon Bullard

Key Losses: LB De’Vondre Campbell, S Darnell Savage, S Jonathan Owens

Just like at the running back position, the Packers did a nice job replacing losses on the defensive side of the ball.

It began when both Darnell Savage and Jonathan Owens left in free agency. Green Bay did not hesitate to snatch Xavier McKinney away from the New York Giants. McKinney will be an instant upgrade at safety, despite the group being rock solid last season. The Packers also added Javon Bullard in the second round of the draft.

De’Vondre Campbell is also gone and this will allow new faces to step up. Quay Walker has been underwhelming for the Packers and this led to the front office adding linebackers on day two of the draft. Edgerrin Cooper and Ty’Ron Hopper will be thrown into the mix right away.

The front seven includes Rashan Gary and Preston Smith, who totaled 17 combined sacks last season. Lukas Van Ness also provides much needed depth for a group that should be able to get to the quarterback. Kenny Clark added 7.5 sacks last season.
