2024 NFL Preview: Baltimore Ravens Season Outlook, Schedule & Predictions
2023 Season-In-Review
Record: 13-4, Loss to Kansas City Chiefs in AFC Championship Game (17-10)
The Baltimore Ravens flexed their muscles early last season. The Ravens began 2-0 before alternating wins and losses for four games but from there, the team began to come together. Baltimore would go onto win 10 out of 11 games to improve to 13-3 and clinch a difficult AFC North division. Baltimore cruised past the Houston Texans in the division round but could not get past the Chiefs in a low-scoring affair. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens once again fell short of their ultimate goal.
2024 Baltimore Ravens Season Preview
Offense
Key Additions: RB Derrick Henry, OT Josh Jones
Key Losses: RB JK Dobbins, RB Gus Edwards, WR Odell Beckham Jr., WR Devin Duvernay, OT Morgan Moses, G Kevin Zeitler, G John Simpson
Lamar Jackson has established himself as an elite regular season quarterback in the NFL. We saw regular season because he won his second league MVP last season but has been unable to lead the Ravens to where they want to be in the postseason. It took time for the offensive line to gel in front of Baltimore after losing some key pieces.
Baltimore lost even more this year as Morgan Moses was sent to the New York Jets. The Ravens believe they have their replacement in rookie Roger Rosegartner. He’ll start opposite Ronnie Stanley, who is an elite left tackle. Ben Cleveland and Andrew Voorhees will be new along the interior as the front office made sure to shore up a line in front of Jackson.
The skill positions also look a bit different and the biggest addition, and arguably best fit, was Derrick Henry coming to the Ravens. He will add to what has been an elite rushing attack with Jackson over the years. On the outside, Zay Flowers looks to continue to ascend while Mark Andrews is one of the top tight ends in football.
The Ravens continue to have an elite quarterback and improved skill positions. If the offensive line holds up, they will find themselves back in contention for a title once again.
Defense
Key Additions: LB Chris Board, CB Nate Wiggins
Key Losses: LB Patrick Queen, DE Jadeveon Clowney, DE Tyus Bowler, CB Ronald Darby, CB Rock Ya-Sin, S Geno Stone
The Ravens had one of the best defenses in the NFL last season. They were swarming at all three levels and well-coached with Mike MacDonald as the defensive coordinator. MacDonald is not in Seattle as the head coach and the defense lost some key pieces as well.
Patrick Queen left for division rival Pittsburgh while Jadeveon Clowney is also out. Even with losses, the Ravens are expected to still be able to get to the quarterback. Kyle Van Noy was third on the team with nine sacks while Odafe Oweh emerged as a legitimate option. This was a huge boost for the defnese but he will not be a secret anymore.
In the middle, Roquan Smith is back to be the leader of the defense. He is one of many superstars that Baltimore has. This includes standout defensive tackle Justin Madubuike. He turned into one of the best interior lineman in the league and the Ravens made it a priority to keep him long term.
The secondary returns many starters for the Ravens. This includes what could be one major upgrade. Ronald Darby is gone but the Ravens used their first-round pick on Nate Wiggins. He is expected to step right into a starting role opposite Marlon Humphrey.
The defense as a whole should be elite once again in Baltimore and help the team accomplish what it wants this season.
