2024 NBA Draft: 3 Winners From Round One

The 2024 NBA Draft took place last week in Brooklyn. Teams have now had a chance to welcome their new talent and evaluate what the plan is moving forward.

There were many picks made that will improve teams and some that include questions marks. This improves the No. 1 overall pick in Zaccharie Risacher. There were major winners from the draft and here are three that made out very well.

3. Los Angeles Lakers

No, we are not talking about Bronny James here. Sometimes age is overvalued in the NBA Draft. Dalton Knecht came into the draft as one of the oldest players in the group at 23 years old. He also entered as one of the most pro-ready players that can score from all three levels, including filling it up from three-point range. The Los Angeles Lakers danced to the podium when the Philadelphia 76ers passed on Knecht. He scored 21.7 points per game for Tennessee last season while shooting 39.7% from three-point range. Knecht is the perfect fit for the Lakers, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis being elite passers. This gives the team a needed offensive threat from deep.

2. Minnesota Timberwolves

In a league that is dominated by guard play, the Minnesota Timberwolves focused on this during the draft. The Wolves made a run to the Western Conference Finals last season as Anthony Edwards turned into a superstar. Now, he has a running mate with Kentucky speedster Rob Dillingham. Minnesota moved up to No. 8 and made a deal with the San Antonio Spurs to land Dillingham. Is there question marks with this selection? Of course, there is going to be with many. If Knecht and the Lakers is not the best fit from night one, it might be Minnesota and Dillingham. This is because of his ability to handle the ball, score (15.4 points per game), and shoot from deep (44.4% last season). Dillingham is not the best perimeter defender but the Wolves boast a strong frontcourt to protect the rim.

1. Washington Wizards

This is not a misprint. The Washington Wizards actually land at the top of a list that is putting together winners. In any aspect, this is rare for D.C. It began early when the Wizards took Alex Sarr with the second overall pick. Sarr is not going to come in and be a star right away. The good news is, he doesn’t have to be for Washington. This is a developmental team right now and Sarr has ways to go. He has shown potential from three-point range and on the defensive end with his athleticism and length. Sarr is not the perfect player right now but he is the best fit for Washington. The Wizards also landed Bub Carrington out of Pittsburgh. He might be one of the most undervalued in the draft. This is because of his ability to fill it up from all three levels and his toughness. Carrington has a strong frame and can compete on both sides of the ball. Both Sarr and Carrington will get a chance to grow and log minutes right away for the Wizards.
