2024 MLB Season Outlook: Miami Marlins Preview, Predictions And Expectations
The Miami Marlins have been an interesting team since it came to Major League Baseball. The Marlins won two World Series championships in the first decade of its existence. Since then, there have been postseason appearances scattered and last season is included. The Marlins have had some elite players during its time. This season, the team has a chance to surprise once again.
2023 SEASON IN-REVIEW
Record: 84-78, 3rd in NL East
Postseason: Loss to Philadelphia Phillies (2-0) in Wild Card round
The Marlins overachieved last season after four consecutive years not eclipsing 70 wins, not counting the Covid-shortened 2020 year. Miami clinched a spot in the postseason and will look to build on it this year.
2024 SEASON PREVIEW
Key Losses: DH Jorge Soler, RP Matt Moore, C Jacob Stallings
Key Additions: SS Tim Anderson
The Marlins are a team that has snuck up on people in recent years. That might be the case once again this season but it should not be with their rotation.
Miami could feature one of the best rotations in baseball — and that is with former Cy Young award winner Sandy Alcantara recovering from Tommy John surgery. It begins with Jesus Luzardo. The 26-year-old struck out 208 in just 178.2 innings last season. He was one of the best starters that no one talked about in the National League last season.
Eury Perez and AJ Puk will also be featured at the top the rotation. The Marlins feature a young rotation with arms under 27 years old. The problem last season, Miami did not score runs.
The Marlins scored the fifth-fewest runs in baseball last season. This made it even more impressive that the rotation and bullpen carried the team to 84 wins and the postseason. Now, the Marlins saw Jorge Soler leave as a free agent. The Marlins took a flier on Tim Anderson, who will take over in the middle of the infield with Luis Arraez. This has a chance to be a strong infield at the dish, led by Arraez who is one of the best pure hitters in the league.
Josh Bell and Jake Burger provide a bit of pop in the middle. The x-factor remains to be Jazz Chisholm. Miami has been waiting for its star to take the next step, and this includes with his health.
The Marlins play in one of the best divisions in baseball led by the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. And who knows what the New York Mets will be. The Marlins did it last season and could be looking for another Wild Card spot in 2024.
