2024 MLB Season Outlook: Colorado Rockies Preview, Predictions And Expectations

It was another disastrous season for the Colorado Rockies in 2023. Is there any good coming for this team moving forward?

2023 SEASON IN-REVIEW

Record: 59-103, 5th in NL West

Postseason: N/A

The Rockies finished dead last in the NL West last season. It has not been a five-year playoff drought for Colorado dating back to 2018.

2024 SEASON PREVIEW

Key Losses: RP Brent Suter, SP Chris Flexen

Key Additions: C Jacob Stallings, SP Cal Quantrill, SP Dakota Hudson

The Rockies are entering a season where they are hoping to remain healthy and see young players develop. There is nothing wrong with this plan but it continues to make Kris Bryant’s seven-year, $182 million contract a head-scratcher.

Let’s start with the youngsters. Nolan Jones hit .297 with 62 RBI in his first season in Colorado. Brenton Doyle won a Gold Glove in centerfield last season. There are some bright spots for the Rockies moving forward and this duo is at the top of the list. It is an interesting combination for Colorado. There are young players looking to emerge further along with veterans, such as Bryant and Charlie Blackmon.

Sophomore slumps are real in Major League Baseball and the Rockies are hoping to avoid this. In the rotation, Colorado will feature Kyle Freeland at the top with plenty of innings eaters on short-term deals.

The Rockies added Cal Quantrill in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians. Austin Gomber and Ryan Feltner can continue to grow, along with Peter Lambert. Colorado will need the starters to eat plenty of innings with a shaky bullpen.

The problem with the Rockies is that the plan is odd. Blackmon and Bryant remain in the lineup while trying to develop young players. Colorado traded Nolan Arenado years ago just to replace him with another big contract for Bryant. It is confusing to say the least.

It is another developmental year for the Rockies. There are many predictions that have Colorado logging a second consecutive 100-loss season and it is easy to see when you take a look at the roster.
