2024 MLB Season Outlook: Chicago White Sox Preview, Predictions And Expectations

The Chicago White Sox will come into the 2024 season after finishing near the bottom of the division. This campaign has the potential to be slightly better but not by much. In fact, there is a chance that the White Sox return to a place where they do not want to be.

2023 SEASON IN-REVIEW

Record: 61-101, 4th in AL Central

Postseason: N/A

It has been a free fall for the White Sox since winning 93 games and an AL Central title in 2021. They were dead even at 81-81 in 2022 before falling into the 100-loss club in 2023. Is this a group that the White Sox can avoid this season?

2024 SEASON PREVIEW

Key Losses: SS Tim Anderson, RP Liam Hendriks, SP Mike Clevinger, C Yasmani Grandal, RP Aaron Brummer

Key Additions: SS Paul DeJong, SP Mike Soroka, C Martin Maldonado, SP Chris Flexen, RP John Brebbia

At the end of the day, what are the prospects for the White Sox this season?

Last year was as catastrophic as it gets. During the offseason, the White Sox were not quiet but the moves made did not move the needle much. The team just needed to fill some holes.

The gapping hole was at shortstop, where Tim Anderson has patrolled over the last eight years. He is now a free agent and will be landing elsewhere. This is where Paul DeJong comes into play. With that being said, Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez remain the only consistent bats that Chicago can rely on — and both are likely to be traded at some point.

Speaking of players that are likely to be traded, enter Dylan Cease. The Cy Young-caliber starter struggled last season with a 4.58 ERA. This contributed to the fifth-highest ERA in all of baseball, climbing over five as a staff. Cease has started 32 or more games in each of the last three seasons. At 28 years old, Cease is entering his prime and will be looking for a contract. Chicago is not going to be the team that gives in.

The team is full of players that are going to eat time this year, especially within the rotation. The additions of Erick Fedde and Chris Flexen are not ones that are going to get the White Sox to the postseason. Instead, these moves are going to eat innings over the course of 162 games. That is the ultimate goal.

In the lineup, Yoan Moncada and Martin Maldonado will be taking at-bats but project to be below average. Just like Gavin Sheets and Nicky Lopez.

The White Sox are looking to the future. The team will enter the year confident but the majority rules that it will be another lost year for the franchise. What will it take to turn Chicago around? That’s yet to be seen but there is a lot of work that needs to be done.
