2024 Kansas Football: Season Preview, Schedule & Predictions

2023 Season-In-Review

Record: 9-4, Win vs. UNLV in Guaranteed Rate Bowl (49-36)

Kansas continues to improve as a program. After being one of the worst teams in the nation, this group of Jayhawks continues to rise. Kansas won nine games last season and it ended with a bowl win against UNLV, where Jason Bean threw for 449 yards. Kansas began the year 4-0 before being run down by Texas. The highlight of the year came when the Jayhawks defeated Oklahoma on their home field.

Offense: Healthy Jayhawks can make some noise

Jalon Daniels will return for the 2024 season after a hyped-up campaign last season. He was selected as the Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year but played in just three games with a back injury. He is expected to enter the season at full strength and will have a loaded offense to work with.

It begins with Devin Neal, who is expected to become the all-time leading rusher in program history. Neal rushed for 1,280 yards and 16 touchdowns while averaging 6.3 yards per carry in 2023. The Jayhawks will have a strong duo in the conference as Daniel Hishaw Jr. also returns. He was second on the team with 626 yards and eight touchdowns.

On the outside, the Jayhawks will return two of their top three receivers from last season. Quentin Skinner is the leading returner after putting up 587 yards and two touchdowns. Luke Grimm was tied for the team lead with six touchdowns and totaled 55 yards on 33 catches. Former five-star recruit and Wisconsin transfer Logan Brown impressed during the spring along the offensive line. He will anchor a tackle position, along with Calvin Clements and Bryce Cabeldue.

The Jayhawks will implement a new system with Jeff Grimes coming in as offensive coordinator. The former Baylor OC will have plenty of weapons to work with this season.

Defense: Secondary a strength

Kansas, like many teams, will have some turnover on the defensive side of the ball but the secondary will return elite playmakers from a year ago.

The duo of cornerbacks Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson make up one of the best in the nation. They both came away with four interceptions last season, two of which were returned for touchdowns by Dotson. Along the defensive line, the Jayhawks will replace two of the conference’s best from last season but are strong on the edge.

Jerome Robinson was second on the team with 4.5 sacks last season, which was his first as the full-time starter. He will quickly step into a leadership role for this team. In the middle Rich Miller and Craig Young return after being two of the top three tacklers on the team last season. DJ Warner also comes in as a freshman after being the highest-ranked player to sign with Kansas. He will make an impact on the edge, along with Dakyus Brinkley.

This freshmen duo shows that the future is bright for Kansas but the team is also preparing to compete this season.
