2 A.L Contenders Linked To Jazz Chisholm Jr. Amidst Trade Rumors

Pretty much everything that could go wrong for the Miami Marlins has gone wrong for the entirety of the 2024 season.

Since the MLB implemented an extra Wild Card team in each league back in 2022, there have been fewer defined sellers at the trade deadline each year. However, the Marlins will certainly be one of them this season.

With the Marlins expected to be extreme sellers at this summer’s trade deadline, pretty much everyone on their roster is being made available to contenders including star center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Chisholm has four years of team control left which makes him a very attractive piece to contending teams in a wide variety of situations.

In 90 games this season, Chisholm Jr. is slashing .255/.324/.419 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI while stealing 8 bases.

Two A.L division leaders in the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the struggling Miami Marlins.

No matter which of the two teams Chisholm hypothetically was traded to, he would likely be moving back to the infield where he played for three seasons before moving to center field in 2023.

Aaron Judge and Julio Rodriguez have center field locked down for the Yankees and Mariners respectively, leaving no room for Chisholm there.

Seattle seems to be a better fit for Jazz Chisholm as the Mariners have struggled offensively this season and have the fewest wins (52) of any division winner in all of baseball.

The Yankees could also find Chisholm to be a benefit to an infield that features two struggling bats in the form of Gleyber Torres and D.J LeMahieu.

As for the Marlins, they appear to be heading for a full-on rebuild after dealing Luis Arráez to the Padres earlier this season and will likely be trading closer Tanner Scott and others at the trade deadline this season.
