10 Year NBA Vet Joe Harris Announces Retirement
Joe Harris announced on Thursday afternoon that he would be retiring from basketball after a ten-year NBA career which saw him split time with the Cavs, Nets, and Pistons.
In 2014, Harris was drafted with the 33rd overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers where he spent his first two NBA seasons making two finals appearances in a limited role.
Following the 2015-2016 season, Harris was traded to the Orlando Magic who waived him, making way for him to sign with the Brooklyn Nets, the team Harris was most known for.
Throughout his seven seasons in Brooklyn, Harris established himself as one of the NBA’s elite shooters as he led the league in three-point percentage in both 2018/2019 and 2022/2021.
Harris will retire as the NBA’s fifth most accurate three-point shooter of all time.
While with the Nets, Harris averaged 11.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 48% from beyond the arc.
2019 produced Harris’ most iconic moment as an NBA player when he took down Steph Curry to win the three-point contest and become the only Brooklyn Net to win the event.
After struggling in the 2022/2023 season where he averaged just 7.6 points, the Nets traded Harris to the rebuilding Detroit Pistons where he would play just 16 games and averaged just 2.4 points last season.
Harris is just 32 years old but his recent struggles and ten-year NBA status could be what pushed him to call it quits.
It’ll be interesting to see if this is truly the end for Harris we can look back on him as one of the NBA’s most lethal shooters of the modern era.
